Wow, I never knew walking was so healthy! What drug or surgery could ever compete with these benefits? How much does a walk cost? How many people would have a better quality of life just by taking a daily walk?
The authors of the scientific paper that highlighted the above benefits go further to say that exercise is a genetic requirement for humans to express health and prevent illness. They also tell us that chronic illness associated with sedentary living is not the result of bad genes or pathological cell function but rather due to living a genetically incongruent lifestyle.
The bottom line: 1) we need to exercise to be healthy and prevent disease, and, 2) chronic illness is not a result of your genetics but of your lifestyle.
So how does this relate to Chiropractic? Well, our primary focus is to improve spinal and nervous system function to help people get well and then keep them well. Secondly, we have patients that are not properly able walk, due to their physical condition, so we strive to get them better in order to increase their physical activity. Thirdly, patients who walk more and sit less tend to respond more quickly to treatment.
Herein lies the tale... just like chiropractic, walking is good for your spine and nervous system and your nervous system controls your health... so, why not “take a walk”?
