Scoliosis is a lateral curvature of the spine, which is more common in girls than in boys. Until the child reaches skeletal maturity has the possibility of suffering of spinal diversion.
Normally the doctor would recommend x-rays to measure the angles and the amount of deviation in the spine. With a left hand x-ray of the child, the doctor can determine how much longer the child is going to keep growing and become a teenager. After skeletal maturity is very rare to see scoliosis advance but mechanical alterations of the joints by the deviation of a scoliosis can begin a process of degeneration (arthritis) that affect the spine throughout the individual's life.
The most common symptom is pain, but also aesthetics is of important consideration, especially if the deviation is quite marked. Some causes of scoliosis can be identified as a poorly developed vertebra, but in most cases, professionals don’t really know why it happens.
Medical treatment is based on trying to stop the development and relieve symptoms, with films scheduled reviews to compare and see the evolution of the deviation. Several types of corset are used during the day or night, but if you only use this method is not very effective because it does not correct the biomechanics of the spine and because in many cases, especially teenagers, it is uncomfortable and embarrassing for them to wear. Finally, in advanced cases, the patient faces a complicated surgery to determine the column. This type of surgery has and will always have different consequences for the patient.
The back has four layers of muscles and for the scoliosis treatment to be effective, muscular system coordination has to be normalized, which is why the massage is not often effective by itself, Chiropractic care should also be included in the treatment. Another consideration is the alignment of the pelvis that often has disorders that affect the spine and can contribute to the development of scoliosis.
Chiropractic is recommended for anyone with scoliosis, child or adult.
Chiropractic deals with correcting the entire musculoskeletal system to affect the entire spine movement. Chiropractic corrects muscular tension acting on the column and the disorders in the pelvis and sacrum, which are the foundations of the column.
