As we get older our bodies become a lot more sensitive... so we need to pay more attention to what our bodies are telling us. It doesn’t mean that our vitality has to diminish... it just means that we have to make better choices to maintain our health. 

 

So, what health choices do we have? Put simply, if we EAT, DRINK WATER, MOVE and THINK well then we are going to be more vital, energetic and better able to do the things that we want to do. After all, life is here to be enjoyed!

 

EAT: The list of foods that your body ‘agrees’ with shortens as you get older. Some foods may well be irritating your organs, for example, gluten (pasta, bread and beer). Perhaps you are gassy after eating dairy products? The quality of the food that you eat becomes more and more important with age.

 

WATER: Drink more water! Drink at least 2 litres per day. The degeneration of age is sped up by chronic dehydration, for example, “Degenerative Disc Disease”. This is the wearing out of the shock absorbing discs that sit between the vertebral bones of the spinal column. These discs frequently lose water, or dehydrate, and then wear out. We want the spine to move like a well oiled machine and not like an old rust bucket! so …drink more water!

MOVE: With age the body is more physically dysfunctional than when were 18 years old but there is no reason why we cannot continue doing the things that we enjoy...  However we need to take better precautions: walk at least half an hour uninterrupted per day, get enough quality sleep, perhaps take up yoga to stretch and strengthen up.

 

THINK: Relax as best you can, try not to stress, take a walk, read a book, do things that you enjoy!
