Doctors have two ways to classify spinal stenosis. It could be primary, that is to say, when someone suffers it since being borned and it is considered a birth defect. Primary spinal stenosis is rare, especially when compared with the other category of spinal stenosis, the acquiree. This is the result of a disease or spinal injury. The main causes of spinal stenosis is acquired natural wear of the column due to age. In fact, the most common direct cause of spinal stenosis is osteoarthritis, which occurs when cartilage which protects joints begins to degenerate due to aging.
In young people, the cartilage is smooth. As we age, the cartilage may become rough or abrasion, allowing the bones to make friction between them. The body reacts to this friction producing small bony growths called bone spurs (osteophytes). This is an natural effort our body does to limit movement and thus limit the pain of bone friction.
This is relatively true, if the person moved less likely to reduce the pain. However, people can not stop moving completely and the slightest movement also reduces the quality of life. Moreover, these bone spurs can create another type of pain. Column, can narrow the spinal canal (ie spinal stenosis), which, in turn, can compress the spinal cord and nerve roots.

Besides osteoarthritis, spinal stenosis can also develop problems in the intervertebral discs. The intervertebral discs may bulge or tear or may rupture (herniated disc). A bulging disc or herniated disc fragments may protrude into the vertebral canal or clamping the rib extending through the foramina. The ligaments connecting the vertebrae may degenerate and can also move one or more vertebrae out of place, and they can pinch the spinal cord or nerves.
Risk factors for both osteoarthritis of the spine to disc problems include: aging, poor posture, high-impact sports and overweight.
Injuries to the spine can also cause spinal stenosis. For example, you can lift a heavy object without using the right techniques. This can damage a disc or even move the vertebrae out of their normal alignment. These injuries put pressure on the spinal cord and nerve roots. Any spinal injury can also cause inflammation of the tissue and pressure the spinal cord and nerve roots.
Chiropractic is a natural form of health care that can help keeping your spine healthy, and if you already have some degree of degeneration will continue to ensure that this process is not advancing as quickly as it happens when we have structural changes in the spine.
